What are some effective ways of coping with unrequited love?
Q. Let's say that I'm in love with someone, but she doesn't love me back. Suppose she's engaged to another man, and she loves me only as a friend, not romantically. What advice can you give for one to cope with unrequited feelings? What do I do if my heart beats really fast whenever I talk to her, and I feel so happy inside?

A. 1.) Read "He's Just Not That Into You" (It can apply to girls too, just switch it around). 2.) Look at other girls. 3.) Don't put the pus$y on the pedestal. 4.) Decide whether or not you can handle being friends with her. For a lot of guys it's either a relationship or absolutely nothing. An don't look at it emotionally, look at it logistically. Feelings fade. You WILL get over it and get a crush on someone else. Trust me, buddy.

What exactly did Charlie Brown say about peanut butter and unrequited love?
Q. I've seen a few variations of his words online... "Nothing takes the taste out of peanut butter quite like unrequited love." "Nothing ruins a peanut butter sandwich quite like unrequited love." "Nothing takes the taste out of a peanut butter sandwich like unrequited love." etc... I know it's a silly question, but does anyone know which is the exact quotation? Also, does anyone know whether the quotation comes from the strips or from one of the TV specials? Thank you!

A. The first: "Nothing takes the taste out of peanut butter quite like unrequited love." I know it was in the comic strip, but it might have also been in one of the TV specials. So ... comic strip for sure, **possibly** both comic and TV.

What is the brightside of unrequited love?
Q. There's a brightside to everything, right? What about with unrequited love? I have strong feelings for my best friend, who has told me they are not returned. :( I just need something to cheer me up a bit. And please don't tell me 'there are plenty of other fish in the sea.' That's the last thing I want to think about right now!

A. Is there really such a thing as unrequited love ? I think they only happen in movies. Is it unrequited because you are not getting the reaction that you want from the other person , like he is not loving you back the way you want him to ? What we normally call love is the egoistic satisfaction of one person by another, whether it's sexual satisfaction or any other kind of fulfillment we receive from another person. And clearly, this isn't love. When we talk about love in this world, we are really talking about attraction and pleasure that are brought about by hormones. If we were to disconnect a person from his hormonal system, he wouldn't be able to feel "love." This again shows that what we usually think of as love is just an egoistic… [cont.]

What are your experiences of unrequited love?
Q. It is clear this is the most painful type of love, and i'm going through it right now and it hurts so so bad, i wouldn't say it's love, but its defiantly an unrequited feeling no matter what, so to make me feel better what are your experiences? And how did you cope with them? I would love to know how it all turned out in the end, or if you're still coping with it. I hope i'm not alone

A. I met my ex bf when I was dating one of his friends. I wanted him so bad and I could tell he wanted me too. He was the one who helped me carry in groceries, helped cook dinner. After me and my bf broke up the guy, let's call hiim Chris bc that's his name, and I started dating. I loved him so much. My son started calling him daddy, he moved in. I wanted to marry him. My whole life I felt like I wasn't a complete person and there was something missing from my life. Like I lost my purse or something. I laid in bed at night and sometimes I would cry for no reason. I wasn't depressed. I was just lonely I guess. But when I met him, I was so happy. I started to enjoy the bits of daily life more. i liked to wake up in the morning bc I knew he… [cont.]

What are some famous poems about longing, unrequited love, etc?
Q. I need to find published poems by known poets for English. I'm kind of stuck, because I want to find a poem about longing for someone you can't have, unrequited love, or loving someone who isn't single. My favorite poets are Carl Sandburg and Robert Frost, but I'm always welcome for new poets! Thanks in advance! :)

Why can depression and the emotional anguish coming with unrequited love cause chest tightness?
Q. I have listened and read several descriptions of people describing the effects of depression and unrequited love. One of the symptoms I have heard people describe is a feeling of tightness in the chest. I understand that depression can have physical symptoms I have always wondered why this physical symptom manifests itself? What is the cause of it? Is it due to the release of adrenaline, contracting of chest muscles, due to difference in breathing or anything in the like?

A. "Unrequited love usually causes a lot of emotional pain for the person in love. The person who is the object of affection may suffer too, especially if unrequited love involves two close friends. It is an uncomfortable, even painful feeling to love someone as a friend and know that friendship is not enough for the other person. Unrequited love can also cause physical problems. Effects may mimic grief symptoms: fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, headache, depression and forgetfulness. In extreme cases, unrequited love leads to suicidal thoughts, or even suicide." Maybe its just it sets off depression in a person with the inclination towards it.

A. Although I haven't had the pleasure of reading it, I have heard that The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo covers unrequited love pretty well, as a bonus, it also ends as a tragedy. There are some parts in the book that are a little slow, particularly when the author breaks off the story to give some background information on the architecture. There's also The Children of Hurin by John R.R. Tolkien. Wonderful novel. It is told in a mythical fashion, and has been likened to the Greek Tragedy. If you want something politically stimulating, with a sad ending, try 1984 by George Orwell.

A. Never happened to me. It happened to my husband when he was around 24. He met a girl in his homeland (Hungary) and really liked and respected her but never got physical with her. He had many, many girlfriends before her but for some reason he saw her as a virgin and sweet. He was planning on escaping his country (it was communist then) and wanted her to leave with him. She said she would go and he made plans for the two of them to escape. Last min. she chicken out of the plan and ran off with a flunkly sort of man that my husband knew of. She married the other guy and had a baby but drank herself to death by age 30. i think in his mind my husband still feels badly for her and although he has never said so to me, I think he misses her.

Is this unrequited love or something else?
Q. Is it still considered to be a case of unrequited love when you love someone so much, but you haven't told them and you have no idea how they feel about you? (though you're betting they don't because you feel they're tooo good for you?) Or is it unrequited love only when they actually know you love them, and they don't love you back?
Asked by Bridget J - Sun Nov 29 05:55:37 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's only unrequited if the other person doesn't know. Actually, it's a bit of a misnomer really, since it's really just infatuation. You can't truly love someone without getting to know them well, and for a long time.

A. Go hunting, bring home the largest deer you can physically carry on your back, and show her your ability to catch and kill food, she will instantly fall in love with you and cook you whatever you bring home. an important factor is to have the instruments of death in your hands or mouth covered in blood to accentuate the hardship you went to bring home this bounty. I personally use a .44 rifle and a hammer. Good luck! remember the bigger the better

A. Well if I were you I would try getting my mind off of this guy. I would try to give other guys a chance. You can change people if they dont want to be changed. I know that from experience. Don't worry just try and look at things a little differently. Its not fair to you to just think about this guy and not be happy. Everyday is a new day. Hope this helps!

A. Yes you do need to get over the love. However, I have been in that same situation and it is very difficult. Although we have not spoken in years, I still love the straight guy that I fell for many years ago. We became really good friends and it just progressed as time went on. I know that he had some feelings for me too, but we just did not act on them. It is something that I will hold on to for my whole life and remember with great joy and fondness. I have never had that type of relationship since. Good luck to you man. I hope that you meet the man of your dreams.
