Q. I'm talking about reference works that already exist on the Web and their owners want to take advantage of MediaWiki features but don't want the warring and witch hunts that some wikis have. Asked by Robert S - Sun Dec 6 01:53:04 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. The best way to avoid Wikipedia's many, many pitfalls is to keep all article pages on permanent "lockdown", directly editable only by an editorial board chosen for their applicable knowledge or expertise in that subject area. User pages and talk pages should be refocused upon users making suggested changes to an article, or suggesting new articles, for the editorial board to act on. The ability of knowledgeable amateurs to suggest changes, and the transparency of the process, would thus be retained, but over 90% of the gaming, drama and sociopathy that plagues Wikipedia will be avoided.
